Testimonials

“Thanks to dedicated support from the Indonesian Children’s Appeal (ICA) administered by the Hatch-Barnwell Charitable Trust in London, hundreds of deprived children from various parts of Indonesia earned a decent education in an Islamic boarding school (pesantren) in Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Not only did the charity reach the target i.e. the deprived children. It has been managed by highly dedicated educators who have dedicated their lives to helping the deprived children to have a brighter future.
 Thank you ICA.”

“…. but am not convinced that official channels of this kind will necessarily be the most effective. I have been talking to a friend, Philip Hatch-Barnwell who, with his Indonesian wife Tatik, administers the Indonesian Children’s Appeal through the Hatch-Barnwell Charitable Trust. This is a small registered and reputable charity which has been collecting money for some years in London to provide education for needy children in Indonesia. They have virtually no overheads and all money collected, although relatively small scale, is channelled directly to the people who need it. Having already allocated funds for their ongoing projects in Indonesia for 2005, they are now focussing additional funding entirely on the tsunami victims in Aceh and the surrounding area. The Administrators of the Trust have guaranteed that all funds raised for this appeal will be delivered directly to the affected communities at their own personal expense. They propose to work through established local community and Islamic organisations and focus on re-housing and basic education, paying particular attention to orphans and widowed mothers. Rather than immediate large scale humanitarian relief, which by its nature is probably best provided in other ways, their aim is to collect funds until the end of February and then start to help communities to rebuild. It will be relatively small scale but carefully directed.
Their ultimate aim is to add another small scale project to their portfolio which will receive funding long into the future.”
